  • Audition dates and times are subject to change. A YAC member will contact you if there are any changes.
  • We encourage you to contact us at info@youthperformanceco.org with any accommodations you may need for your upcoming audition. We are happy to provide materials in advance, large print scripts, or other requests as needed.

GENERAL AUDITION GUIDELINES:

  • All auditions are held at the YPC Offices: 641 Fairview Avenue N, St. Paul, MN
  • Audition slots are generally an hour long; students may not be needed for the entire hour.
  • Auditions are closed meaning parents and friends are not allowed to observe. This enables the young actor to completely focus all of their attention on the audition; our goal is to make the young actors feel relaxed and comfortable
  • The activities during the audition are planned to help artistic staff make the best decision in casting the roles for the show. All those who are involved in the audition process confer on casting but the final decision rests with the director.
  • Headshot and resumè are encouraged, but not required.

WHAT TO PREPARE:

  • For non-musicals, auditioners should prepare a 60 – 90 second story or monologue that fits with the style of the piece (comic, dramatic, classic, etc.)
  • Additionally, for musicals, auditioners should prepare a song in the style of the show (short; 16-18 bars) to be sung acapella along with the story or monologue.

CALLBACKS:

  • Actors will be contacted by email or phone about callbacks.
  • At callbacks, Actors may be asked to do any or all of the following: re-perform their audition pieces, learn a new dance combination, sing/read from the piece, or do improv exercises.
