SUMMER EDUCATION INTERN
CLASSROOM ASSISTANT
Youth Performance Company is seeking candidates for the seasonal position of Summer Education Intern.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
The Head Intern role requires someone ages 18-24 who works well with students, can lead a classroom, and is responsible. Applicants for this position should have strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. While not required, it is preferred applicants have experience in youth programming and/or theatre education in some capacity.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Head Intern’s main responsibilities are to supervise and support the Classroom Assistants and act as a liaison between the Administrative Offices and the Classrooms. Additional responsibilities include:
- Lead morning meeting with Classroom Assistants
- Assign placements for Classroom Assistants
- Supervise Student Check-in and Check-Out (confirming authorized adults, absences, late arrivals, etc.)
- Assist with administrative tasks (prepping materials, social media, cleaning, etc)
- Assist within the classroom (leading games, warm-ups, etc.)
- Lead transitions (beginning of day, lunch, breaks, end of day)
- Lunch time supervision of students and Classroom Assistants on and off-site
- General assistance with behavior management (first line of defense if Classroom Assistants need help with behavior)
- Facilitate communication between the office and the classrooms
- Communicate expectation to Classroom Assistants
- Assist in Classroom Assistants’ personal and professional development
- Any additional needs that may come up throughout the summer as deemed appropriate by the Education Coordinator
SCHEDULING & COMPENSATION
- Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm
- $400/week; paid weekly

The Classroom Assistant role requires someone ages 14-22 who works well with students, can lead a classroom, and is responsible. Applicants for this position should have strong communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. While not required, it is preferred applicants have experience in youth programming and/or theatre education in some capacity.
POSITION SUMMARY
Each week there will be 2-3 total Classroom Assistants. Each classroom is required to have at least one Assistant at all times. Classroom Assistants are there to help teachers however they need, as well as maintain energy, enthusiasm, and order. They act as:
- Teacher’s assistants
- Cheerleaders
- Bathroom/snack break assistants
- Behavioral monitors (as needed)
- Warm ups and game leaders
- Student advocates
- Liaisons between the classroom and the Administartive Office
Other responsibilities include:
- Working hands-on with students in the classroom
- Completing organizational tasks in the office or in props/costume storage.
- Running tech/being backstage for final performances on Fridays.
- Implementing safety procedures, should safety concerns arise.
- Any additional needs that may come up throughout the week as deemed appropriate by the Summer Education Intern and/or the Education Coordinator.
SCHEDULING & COMPENSATION
Full Day:
- Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm
- $150/week; paid weekly
Half Day:
- Monday-Friday, 8:30am-12:30pm OR 12:30-4:30pm
- $75/week; paid weekly
Scheduling is done on a week-by-week basis based on applicant’s availability.
