In-Person Classes - Grades K-2

These classes are suitable for students who come to YPC with all levels of theatrical experience. In each class, students will work side by side with Professional Artists to develop their physical and vocal skills, and creatively explore their favorite plays, books, and themes. Students will collaborate with their fellow students in an open and encouraging environment, building deeper understandings of the theatrical process.

Covid19 Safety & Camp FAQ

Our focus is to create a safe environment for students and staff.

  • Drop off and pick up will happen outdoors in our parking lot area.
  • A contactless thermometer will be used to take temperature, as well as a verbal check in.

  • Staff members will not work if they are currently experiencing or have experienced any new symptoms consistent with COVID-19 within the last 72 hours.

  • Students may not attend classes/camps if they or a member of their household are showing any new symptoms consistent with COVID-19 now or within the last 72 hours.

  • All materials used in class will be sanitized ahead of time.

  • Students and staff will be masked during classes and we will have participants wash or sanitize hands between workshops or as we change activities.

  • Curriculum will be structured to allow for distancing.

  • Students staying for lunch will socially distance while eating (outdoors if available).

  • We will follow CDC and MDH guidelines for safety protocols and class sizes, and adjust as recommendations fluctuate.

Camp FAQ

Grade Level: YPC’s classes and camps are designed for the grade your child is enrolled in during the 2020-2021 school year. We understand some students may thrive in a group older or younger than their designated peer group. However, our grade ranges are strict so that teaching artists can tailor their lesson plans and ensure the best possible classroom experience for all participants.

Location: Classes are held at our office/rehearsal space: 641 Fairview Ave. N, St. Paul, MN 55104 Suite 191. We’re located in St. Paul Midway just off I-94 and two blocks north of University Avenue between Prior and Fairview Avenues. Parking and bicycle racks are available in the front of the building.

Attire: Please dress for movement and and wear clean-soled shoes that tie or are held on with elastic (i.e. sneakers or dance shoes; no flip flops or sandals).

Food & Water: Lunch/Snacks are not provided. Please send a water bottle and lunch with your child if applicable.

Refunds: Cancellations at least two weeks before the start of a class will receive a full refund less a $30 processing fee. Cancellations less than two weeks before the first class will not receive a refund.

Class Cancellations: In the event a class is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, you can choose a full refund or future class credit.

Additional details will be emailed on a rolling basis, prior to the first week of each camp.

Creative Movement: Encanto Dance Party

The magic of Encanto has blessed everyone in the Madrigal family with a unique gift — everyone except Mirabel. However, she may be the family’s last hope when they discover that the magic surrounding the Encanto is now in danger.

Work with a choreographer to dance and sing along while you discover your own unique, magical gifts.

Tales of Dragons and Unicorns

Magical and Mystical… the journey to Dragons and Unicorns will inspire adventure and wonder. Stories like Dragons Love Tacos and A Unicorn named Sparkle will guide our journey of fun and imagination.

Creative Play: Dinosaur Dig

T-Rex size stories come to life through dramatic play. Who doesn’t love a great Triceratops tale? Learn about dinosaurs and more through stories that help our young paleontologists work on skills such as problem-solving, active listening, and imagination. It’s time to “dig” in.

Pirates and Mermaids — Adventures on the High Seas

Arrgh!! Using our favorite pirate and mermaid stories and ocean adventures, students make connections between imaginative worlds and their own life experiences. Learn to talk like a pirate and swim like a mermaid. Students bring these stories to life – or even create their own stories and characters – using dramatic play. These classes encourage creative expression while promoting confidence and self-esteem.

Adventures of Spider-Man & other Super Heroes

What makes a SUPERHERO so super? We will be exploring Superhero Icons like Spider-Man, Wonder Woman, Black Panther, and more. Let’s figure out what makes them who they are. What are their strengths and superpowers? And more importantly what are our superpowers? In what ways will we make the Universe a greater and more just place. Grab your capes and get ready to FLY!!

Gotta Sing: Favorite Disney Songs

Young artists will explore some of their favorite Disney songs and characters through the world of music. This class encourages creative expression while promoting confidence and self-esteem. Students are introduced to fun vocal warm-ups that promote healthy singing practices as well as musical concepts of rhythm, melody, and pitch.
Mulan, Beauty & the Beast, Moana, Tarzan, and more. “Let it Go… Let it Go” and sing all of your favorite tunes.

Create-a-Play

Spend the week concocting creative characters, producing promising plots, and spinning silly stories. Use theatre games, improvisation, and imagination as you work with a professional artist to create an original play..
