In-Person Classes - Grades 7-12

These classes are suitable for students who come to YPC with all levels of theatrical experience. In each class, students will work side by side with Professional Artists to develop their physical and vocal skills, and creatively explore their favorite plays, books, and themes. Students will collaborate with their fellow students in an open and encouraging environment, building deeper understandings of the theatrical process.

Covid19 Safety & Camp FAQ

Our focus is to create a safe environment for students and staff.

  • Drop off and pick up will happen outdoors in our parking lot area.
  • A contactless thermometer will be used to take temperature, as well as a verbal check in.

  • Staff members will not work if they are currently experiencing or have experienced any new symptoms consistent with COVID-19 within the last 72 hours.

  • Students may not attend classes/camps if they or a member of their household are showing any new symptoms consistent with COVID-19 now or within the last 72 hours.

  • All materials used in class will be sanitized ahead of time.

  • Students and staff will be masked during classes and we will have participants wash or sanitize hands between workshops or as we change activities.

  • Curriculum will be structured to allow for distancing.

  • Students staying for lunch will socially distance while eating (outdoors if available).

  • We will follow CDC and MDH guidelines for safety protocols and class sizes, and adjust as recommendations fluctuate.

Camp FAQ

Grade Level: YPC’s classes and camps are designed for the grade your child is enrolled in during the 2020-2021 school year. We understand some students may thrive in a group older or younger than their designated peer group. However, our grade ranges are strict so that teaching artists can tailor their lesson plans and ensure the best possible classroom experience for all participants.

Location: Classes are held at our office/rehearsal space: 641 Fairview Ave. N, St. Paul, MN 55104 Suite 191. We’re located in St. Paul Midway just off I-94 and two blocks north of University Avenue between Prior and Fairview Avenues. Parking and bicycle racks are available in the front of the building.

Attire: Please dress for movement and and wear clean-soled shoes that tie or are held on with elastic (i.e. sneakers or dance shoes; no flip flops or sandals).

Food & Water: Lunch/Snacks are not provided. Please send a water bottle and lunch with your child if applicable.

Refunds: Cancellations at least two weeks before the start of a class will receive a full refund less a $30 processing fee. Cancellations less than two weeks before the first class will not receive a refund.

Class Cancellations: In the event a class is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, you can choose a full refund or future class credit.

Additional details will be emailed on a rolling basis, prior to the first week of each camp.

Acting: Sketch Comedy

Calling all funny people to the table. Those funny sketches you see on SNL are created by writers who gather around the table and pitch one idea after another in hopes of one of those ideas being developed into a sketch.
Writing and being funny is a lot of hard work. This class is perfect for budding comedians, actors, writers, or a combination of all three. Learn how to write and workshop your material. Time to develop your own voice and comic sensibility.

Actor’s ACTivism

Young artists will use the vehicle of theatre to create a piece of work around social justice. Students will learn about topics like privilege and intersectionality in a safe, brave, and encouraging environment. Creating a piece of devised theatre.
Working collaboratively the young artists will address the following questions. What are the essentials of storytelling, What are the principles of collaborative theatre work? Through what lens will we look at an issue? How might privilege be used to support/voice/bring awareness to an issue? a. Privilege. b. Equality vs Equity.

The young artists will be inspired to express themselves through poetry/written work, movement, music, and more.

Rocky Horror Picture Show

In this cult classic, sweethearts Brad and Janet stuck with a flat tire during a storm, discover the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter. As their innocence is lost, Brad and Janet meet a houseful of wild characters, including a rocking biker and a creepy butler. Through elaborate dances and rock songs, Frank-N-Furter unveils his latest creation: a muscular man named “Rocky.”
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a cult classic. Everyone knows what to do next when someone says,”It’s a jump to the left” Get ready to rock with your favorite outrageous characters and songs.

Love at first sight strikes when young Tony spots Maria at a high school dance in 1957 New York City. Their burgeoning romance helps to fuel the fire between the warring Jets and Sharks — two rival gangs vying for control of the streets.

Mastering Monologues

You have an audition coming up and they are asking for you to perform a monologue as part of the audition. Full panic sets in. Every young actor needs to have in their actor’s toolbox monologues ready to go…ready to perform. Contemporary, Classic, Humorous, and Serious—do have each of those types of monologues performance ready? Every young performer should take this class so you are ready to shine!

Dance: Hip Hop

Hip hop is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their style and personality to the movements.
Dancers develop musicality, creativity, listening skills, and coordination. This non-stop, action-packed class includes hip hop, basic break dancing, and dance games that will have you movin’ to the beats!
