In-Person Classes - Grades 3-6

These classes are suitable for students who come to YPC with all levels of theatrical experience. In each class, students will work side by side with Professional Artists to develop their physical and vocal skills, and creatively explore their favorite plays, books, and themes. Students will collaborate with their fellow students in an open and encouraging environment, building deeper understandings of the theatrical process.

Covid19 Safety & Camp FAQ

Our focus is to create a safe environment for students and staff.
Masks are required for all YPC classes

  • Drop off and pick up will happen outdoors in our parking lot area.
  • A contactless thermometer will be used to take temperature, as well as a verbal check in.

  • Staff members will not work if they are currently experiencing or have experienced any new symptoms consistent with COVID-19 within the last 72 hours.

  • Students may not attend classes/camps if they or a member of their household are showing any new symptoms consistent with COVID-19 now or within the last 72 hours.

  • All materials used in class will be sanitized ahead of time.

  • Students and staff will be masked during classes and we will have participants wash or sanitize hands between workshops or as we change activities.

  • Curriculum will be structured to allow for distancing.

  • Students staying for lunch will socially distance while eating (outdoors if available).

  • We will follow CDC and MDH guidelines for safety protocols and class sizes, and adjust as recommendations fluctuate.

Camp FAQ

Grade Level: YPC’s classes and camps are designed for the grade your child is enrolled in during the 2020-2021 school year. We understand some students may thrive in a group older or younger than their designated peer group. However, our grade ranges are strict so that teaching artists can tailor their lesson plans and ensure the best possible classroom experience for all participants.

Location: Classes are held at our office/rehearsal space: 641 Fairview Ave. N, St. Paul, MN 55104 Suite 191. We’re located in St. Paul Midway just off I-94 and two blocks north of University Avenue between Prior and Fairview Avenues. Parking and bicycle racks are available in the front of the building.

Attire: Please dress for movement and and wear clean-soled shoes that tie or are held on with elastic (i.e. sneakers or dance shoes; no flip flops or sandals).

Food & Water: Lunch/Snacks are not provided. Please send a water bottle and lunch with your child if applicable.

Refunds: Cancellations at least two weeks before the start of a class will receive a full refund less a $30 processing fee. Cancellations less than two weeks before the first class will not receive a refund.

Class Cancellations: In the event a class is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, you can choose a full refund or future class credit.

Additional details will be emailed on a rolling basis, prior to the first week of each camp.

Descendants - FULL

The story follows the teenage children of Disney villains Maleficent, Snow White’s Evil Queen, Cruella De Ville, and Jafar as they attend high school alongside the children of Disney heroes. We invite you to “Be Our Guest” as you join Disney’s favorite Descendants Mal, Carlos, Uma, and Evie from the Isle of the Lost and their adventures in Auradon. Discover if they are truly “Rotten to the Core” as you learn the basics of what it takes to act, sing, and dance in a musical.

Madagascar, the Musical

Join Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, Gloria the hip hip Hippo, and, of course, those hilarious, plotting penguins as they bound onto your stage in the musical adventure of a lifetime. Follow all of your favorite crack-a-lackin’ friends as they escape from their home in New York’s Central Park Zoo and find themselves on an unexpected journey. Sing and dance your way to the madcap world of King Julien’s Madagascar.

Hip hop is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their style and personality to the movements.

Shrek, the Musical

Once upon a time, in a far away swamp, there lived an ogre named Shrek. One day, Shrek finds his swamp invaded by banished fairytale misfits who have been cast off by Lord Farquaad, a tiny terror with big ambitions. When Shrek sets off with a wisecracking donkey to confront Farquaad, he’s handed a task — if he rescues feisty princess Fiona, his swamp will be righted. Shrek tries to win Fiona’s love and vanquish Lord Farquaad, but a fairytale wouldn’t be complete without a few twists and turns along the way. Sing and dance to your favorite musical numbers In the world of “once upon a time”.

Actor’s Toolbox

Young actors learn how to use their actor’s tools (body, voice, mind, and imagination) to bring characters to life. Basic acting concepts, creative games, and imaginative challenges encourage students to make bold and consistent performance choices. Applying skills to short scenes, students learn the importance of collaboration, risk-taking, and using your imagination.

Acting: Stage Combat - Limited Availability

Through the exciting techniques of stage, combat explore how the body is an essential tool for any actor! In this class, students learn to tell stories and create dynamic characters through physical movement. Students learn the principles of safe physical interaction on stage by working on choreographed fights for the theatre. Students also develop physical discipline, focus and concentration, timing, and an understanding of the importance of ensemble when working on these techniques.

Acting: Creating Characters

In this class, the character is the thing! Using familiar stories, students take a closer look at the characters that live in the worlds they already know and consider what makes them tick. Bringing them to life through physical and vocal choices, students learn how a character’s motivation drives a story and keeps an audience engaged. Working with their classmates, students play fun games, work on scenes, and create character biographies.
