Staff and Artists
At YPC, young artists learn from working professionals who are at the top of their craft. Through informal guidance and mentorship—as well as formal experiences like internships and production roles—teens gain insight, experience, connections and practical theater skills.
Jacie Knight, Artistic Director/Founder
Jacie is known for her commitment to developing extraordinary artists and exceptional leaders from the young people of the Twin Cities community while providing highest-quality theatre experiences for families. Over twenty years, she has directed and produced more than 50 main stage productions and written 11 plays for YPC.
Other theatre organizations Jacie has worked with as a freelance director and arts educator include: History Theatre, Steppingstone Theatre for Youth Development, Child’s Play Theatre (now Stages), Children’s Theatre Company, Climb Theatre and Chanhassen Dinner Theatre. Jacie has been a fellow with the James P. Shannon Leadership Institute and received her BA in Theatre from Augsburg College.
Sherilyn Howes, Associate Director, has been with Youth Performance Company since 1992. She is responsible for the day-to-day business management of Youth Performance Company and provides significant production assistance, from making props to painting sets to serving as dramaturg. Sherilyn is also the staff liaison to YPC’s Young Artists Council (the youth leadership board). She manages the box office and is the primary contact for all social media ventures.
Ron Lattin, Development Director, has been a public affairs and business consultant specializing in working with organizations, people and causes that promote corporate responsibility, good government and more effective nonprofits. Most recently, he has been working with nonprofit leaders to strengthen their organizations in strategic planning, fund development and improved program management. Prior to that, Ron served as Executive Director of Caux Round Table, USA, part of a global nonprofit that engages with business and political leaders to design intellectual strategies, management tools and practices to strengthen private enterprise and public governance to improve the global community.
Joey Babay, Education & Outreach, comes to YPC with an extensive background in both the performing arts and education throughout the Twin Cities. He has versatile stage experience in dance, acting, the marching world, and music. This, in conjunction with his social issues work, brings a broad base of contacts and track record to the new position. Joey has always looked at the educational component of theater as a legacy to pass on and not a secondary skill to fall back on. His history with YPC goes back to the fledgling days when it was the youth programming division on Theatre in the Round, and he has frequently returned to the company as a collaborator over its many years.
